What the heck do we wear?!
The clothes your family chooses to wear make a huge impact on the result of your photos. But, picking the outfits for everyone can be an overwhelming task, especially when you don’t know what to look for!
Here are some tips to help you decide what everyone will wear!
- Wear clothes you feel comfortable in and that fit well, we don’t want you to feel stiff or that you can’t move because of your clothes.
- Clothes with large logos and neon colors are distracting, try to pick pieces that are solid or with a pattern that’s neutral in color.
- Find a balance with color! Your family does not only have to wear black and white. Color is good! Try to pick a color palette with about 3-4 colors.
Ex. Red, cream, black. White, blue, grey. Green, khaki, black.
- Go for coordinated not matching. You do not have to go buy the men all the same shirts and the gals all the same cardigan. Different textures, patterns, and shades are encouraged and creates a more interesting photo!
- Groups of more than 10 people can be hard to make look coordinated. These groups will do best with neutrals that everyone typically has.
Ex. Tans, blacks, browns, greys, blues, greens
- Dress for the same event. You don’t want some people to be dressed for a football game and some people dressed for an award show. Everyone should be on the same page.
Below are some examples of well picked outfits for families and large groups.
Why these work
Each of these families made very smart choices for their outfits. There are multiple colors that compliment each other well, different textures, and everyone looks like they are dressed for the same event. You can also see the how some families look more dressed up and the other is more casual. Whichever you choose should be a true expression of your family’s style.
